About Us

Atulaa means "to weave" in wayuunaiki, the language of the wayuu people in La Guajira, north of Colombia.

Our bags are all handmade by local wayuu families and we buy directly from them, paying them the fair price these beautiful bags are worth.

Each bag is made by one woman, using her own designs and it can take up to 20 days to complete just one bag. The designs and patterns of each bag represent the nature and life of the wayuu people; from the footprints left by animals in the sand to the constellations in the Guajira sky, each design is unique and unrepeatable, each representative of the artwork that has been passed down to these women from generation to generation.
